I’ve always found the power of music to be really amazing. Think about it. A 3 minute song can alter your mood so much. It can take you back to a very particular time and place, and for those 3 minutes, you’re not here, you’re there.
The only song that I cant think of that literally takes me somewhere is Konstantine by Something Corporate. That song is so beautiful. I literally cannot explain all of the feelings and emotions that drop down to my gut when the opening piano riffs start up. My heart drops every time, and chills run down my back, and my eyes stare blankly.
Friday, August 13, 2004. Vivian, Clara, Kevin, Brian, and myself all sitting in Monique’s room the night April died. We were all crying and laying around talking about good times with April when Mo’s laptop turned on and this song came on. Wow. We stood up all night and all slept in Mo’s room -with this song running through my head.
I wasn’t able to listen to this song for a very long time. I always tried to avoid it, I didn’t want to think about those feelings and have those thoughts in my head. It’s been 6 years since April died, and to this day, this very song takes me back to that very day. It still makes me incredibly sad and makes me feel like I’ve lost something.
“My Konstantine. You spin around me like a dream we played out on this movie screen. And I said, ‘Did you know I miss you? Did you know I miss you?’”
